Les Miserables is historically known as being the first musical to rely on fully programmed synthesizers, specifically the Yamaha DX7 using FM synthesis. When the show was reorchestrated in 2010, it was brought from 3 DX7 books to 2 sample-based keyboards, keeping several of the original DX7 samples. Evan Barrett Keyboards provides programming containing samples of the original DX7 patches from the 1985 John Cameron orchestration for these patches, including the iconic "Convicts Harpsichord".
